We have a class on PF conservation efforts including Corners for Conservation, Build a Wildlife Area and precision farming to name a few.  There is a hands on Safety Trail which focuses on gun safety in the field,  We do a hands on Field Simulation with live birds and pointing dogs.  Finally, there is gun safety and gun handling on our clay target range. 

We hosted students from CSU, UNC, UCD, Aims Community College, Colorado Christian University, Colorado School of Mines, the Air Force Academy and the University of Wyoming.

]]> 1819 Habitat Conservation Techniques & CSU https://greaterdenverpf.org/2026/03/28/habitat-conservation-techniques-csu/ Sat, 28 Mar 2026 00:33:36 +0000 https://southmetropf.org/?p=1793 On March 25, Colorado State University students gathered to hear our Habitat Chair Steve Osa and President Dean Titterington present on habitat conservation techniques in Colorado, careers with PF, hunting opportunities and chapter outreach through our Habitat and Wingshooting Adventures. 

We also arranged for District Wildllife Manager Patrick Prahl to present on multiple topics including the organization structure of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, careers, seasonal employment opportunities and videos of some of his personal, unique wildlife encounters. 

This event is part of our continuing collegiate outreach and part of the Path to the Uplands program.

]]> 1793 Pollinator Project at Barr Lake State Park May 22 2021 https://greaterdenverpf.org/2021/05/23/pollinator-project-at-barr-lake-state-park-may-22-2021/ Sun, 23 May 2021 22:13:00 +0000 https://southmetropf.org/?p=642 On Saturday, May 22, a consortium of Barr Lake State Park, Pheasants Forever, Occidental Petroleum and Wildland Restoration Volunteers hosted the Black to Nature Book Club at Barr Lake for a three-hour event. 

The focus of this event was twofold: First, the group, guided by PF and Wildland volunteers, and taught by Michelle Seubert, the head park ranger, learned the importance of and the technique of planting pollinator plants. The second focus was getting the job done! Serviceberries, goldenrod, and sunflowers—LOTS of sunflowers. The planting was fun and exciting. The pictures are worth a thousand words! Those displayed here show the group learning the importance of the pollinators and their habitat, getting hands-on training in planting, and gathering to celebrate their success.

A special thanks to the team of planters, the training and guidance of Wildland Restoration volunteers, the expertise of Michelle and the Barr Lake staff, and the financial support of Occidental Petroleum!!  What a great day.
