Habitat and Wingshooting Adventure for Colorado State University Students – April 18, 2026
On April 18, 2026, Greater Denver Pheasants Forever proudly hosted the 2nd Annual Habitat and Wingshooting Adventure for students from Colorado State University. The event focused on introducing students to upland hunting traditions, wildlife habitat conservation, and safe firearm practices in a hands-on outdoor setting.
Students participated in safety instruction covering responsible gun handling both on the range and in the field, helping build confidence and awareness before heading into activities. The day also included clay target shooting sessions, giving participants the opportunity to improve their shooting skills and experience the excitement of wingshooting in a controlled environment.
One of the highlights of the event was the field dog demonstrations, where students were able to watch skilled hunting dogs work in real hunting scenarios while learning about the important role dogs play in upland bird hunting. Events like these help connect the next generation to conservation, outdoor recreation, and the traditions that make upland hunting such a meaningful experience.
Live Bird Hunt for Colorado State University Students – April 11, 2026
On April 11, Greater Denver Pheasants Forever had the opportunity to host a live bird hunt for students from Colorado State University. The hunt was conducted over experienced pointing dogs, giving students a true upland hunting experience and a chance to see the teamwork between hunters and dogs in the field.
The weather stayed cool throughout the day, and the birds were running, making conditions challenging at times. Even so, students were able to harvest birds while learning valuable hunting skills, safety practices, and conservation principles along the way.
Most importantly, the event provided an unforgettable hands-on outdoor experience for the students — many of whom gained a deeper appreciation for upland hunting traditions, wildlife habitat conservation, and the importance of preserving these opportunities for future generations. Greater Denver Pheasants Forever is proud to help introduce and mentor the next generation of conservationists and hunters.
Habitat and Wingshooting Adventure at Valhalla Hunt Club
On April 4, 2026 we hosted 28 collegiate students at Valhalla Hunt Club in Bennett. The event is our Habitat and Wingshooting Adventure which includes several activities.
We have a class on PF conservation efforts including Corners for Conservation, Build a Wildlife Area and precision farming to name a few. There is a hands on Safety Trail which focuses on gun safety in the field, We do a hands on Field Simulation with live birds and pointing dogs. Finally, there is gun safety and gun handling on our clay target range.
We hosted students from CSU, UNC, UCD, Aims Community College, Colorado Christian University, Colorado School of Mines, the Air Force Academy and the University of Wyoming.
Habitat Conservation Techniques & CSU
On March 25, Colorado State University students gathered to hear our Habitat Chair Steve Osa and President Dean Titterington present on habitat conservation techniques in Colorado, careers with PF, hunting opportunities and chapter outreach through our Habitat and Wingshooting Adventures.
We also arranged for District Wildllife Manager Patrick Prahl to present on multiple topics including the organization structure of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, careers, seasonal employment opportunities and videos of some of his personal, unique wildlife encounters.
This event is part of our continuing collegiate outreach and part of the Path to the Uplands program.
